 Carl Zeiss Optronics is one of the world’s leading providers of optical and opto-electronic products and services for defence and security. Recently, it embarked on one of its most exciting and innovative projects to date: AMASS – the Autonomous Maritime Surveillance System. Partially funded by the EU, the initiative has seen Carl Zeiss Optronics join forces with nine organisations from across Europe.
The consortium comprises technology specialists and border agencies who are pioneers in their respective fields – which include research and development, technological and product innovation, marketing, and operational implementation. In 2008, the EU helped bring them together to combine their various skills and resources in a single initiative, with a common goal: the creation of a cutting-edge solution that provides authorities with early, accurate warning of illegal immigration and other criminal activities at sea.
